Ownlife Records

Get Your Sustainability On

From this point forward, Ownlife Records will be planting a tree for each CD/LP sold*. This will primarily be handled by John Denver's own Plant-It 2020. I do a lot of research to ensure that the organizations with whom I work meet certain ethical and sustainable standards. As with everything, however, this is a learning process. Ownlife Records will be 100% transparent (politicians: take note) in what/who it is supporting monetarily. For now, rest easy and pat yourself on the back knowing that your money through purchases is planting trees and offsetting carbon emissions.

*Probably more like planting 10 trees for every 10 CDs/LPs sold so that I'm not spending $1 at a time

Stagnation Blues

There has been a sad lack of updates as of late. School is out, but I injured my foot skateboarding on my birthday. Ownlife Records is still planning a couple new releases; hopefully this year. After that, we may move to a digital only format or perhaps just produce physical albums as they are ordered (see Hagakure by 20trenched). That is if we can manage to use mostly recycled materials. The Ants' entire catalog, as well as 'Grapple the Rails' by Tin Horn Prayer should be available soon. Might have some research material in the R&D section soon(ish). Things never happen as fast as we would like. Also, I might be jammin' tomorrow in preparation for something new. Get stoked!

Thanksgiving & Black Friday

If any orders come through on Thanksgiving or Black Friday I will be giving 100% of the money to a local charity here in Lawrence, KS. In fact, I'll match any payments made out of my own pocket. No sales and no profits.

Dear Earth

'Fan Dance Party' and 'Horror & Hope' by The Havok on Polaris should now be available through any number of digital retailers and streaming services. While you can get them both right here or at Bandcamp along with all of the artwork, the board members decided that the consumers should be able to "pick their poison." So if you prefer iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, or even your Xbox, those options are now available among others. The sheer number of choices is triggering my anxiety. Slowly but surely, all of the artwork and lyrical/written content are being posted for our entire catalog. As with the endless process that is this "well thought out and organized business venture" (read: hobby) the formatting is a work in progress. So take a look around and check out some art and or lyrics along with some tunes. Keep an eye on the distro section for incoming updates. Also drop us a telegram or send a raven if there are any particular CD's or records you want us to carry and I will send a formal request to one the mysterious and omniscient orders of the sonic overlords (AKA: music distributors).

Party on and be excellent to each other.

Evolving architecture of Ownlife

Changes to the website have been constant, if subtle. Full album streams are now available for most Ownlife Records releases in the store. I'm still trying to decide if this will be permanent. While I do partake in digital music, I always liked to maintain a sense of mystery in the releases along with the excitement and anticipation that comes with mail order. For this reason, I usually do not post full streams. But for now, listen, enjoy, and share. Pre-orders for Fan Dance Party by The Havok on Polaris have been posted. Additionally, expect an EP of theirs to finally see the light of day after years of hibernation and ripening. Plenty of distro items are still waiting to be added to the store as well and likely some artwork or other non-music items. Finally, I'm dabbling with the idea of an Ownlife Records & Company trading card set with cards for bands and individual band members. How intricate these will be and whether one will be able to play an actual game with them is still up in the air. Beyond that, I am hoping the R&D wing of Ownlife Records will have something to show for itself soonish. I'm currently a bit stuck learning about brains and dead languages. I'll try not to let that hang me up for long.
